🌿 #StudyTuesdays | Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is inviting students worldwide to join the ReWild the Future Challenge, a global competition to design solutions that bring biodiversity back to rural lands.
🌍 What the challenge is about: Teams combine science, technology and entrepreneurship, from AI mapping and drones to smart sensors and regenerative farming, to create practical, market-ready ideas that restore nature and make it pay.
💡 Ideas we think you could tackle:
📊 Low-cost ways to measure biodiversity
🌾 Helping farmers shift to regenerative systems while keeping their incomes
🪱 Restoring soil health and reducing pollution
🦋 Reconnecting fragmented rural habitats
🛰️ Precision agriculture that boosts both yields and biodiversity
🎁 What you get:
🧭 Mentoring from experts in business, academia and NGOs
🛠️ Workshops on innovation, teamwork and sustainability
🌐 A global network of like-minded students
🏆 Prizes of €7,000, €4,000 and €2,000 for the top three teams
📋 Strong fit if you:
✅ Are a bachelor's or master's student anywhere in the world
✅ Study environmental science, agriculture, forestry, biology, GIS, data science, business or any related field
✅ Can commit around 8 hours a week
👥 Teams need at least 2 members (3–8 recommended). Register on your own and you'll be matched with a team. Recent graduates and PhD students are welcome, as long as they make up no more than half the team.
💚 IMVELO Impact: Across Africa, farmland and biodiversity share the same ground. Ideas that make nature restoration profitable for farmers are exactly what the continent's rural landscapes need. This is a chance to design them, test them and take them home.
📍 Format: Mostly hybrid, hosted by WUR in the Netherlands
🗓️ Timeline: Kick-off January 2027, finals 15 June 2027
⏰ Registration deadline: 23 November 2026
