📡 Help upgrade data collection and forecasting tools for floods, droughts, locust outbreaks and other hazards, with the Ethiopian Meteorological Institute and Ministry of Water and Energy
🗄️ Support a unified national disaster and early warning database, linking federal, regional and local levels
⏱️ Help roll out impact-based early warning and the common framework for drought anticipatory action
🎓 Lead training and capacity building for government early warning staff and communities
🤝 Coordinate partnerships with the EDRMC, UN agencies, NGOs and technical working groups
📋 Strong fit if you have:
✅ A master’s in disaster risk management or reduction, climate science, environmental science, geography, meteorology, food security, natural resource management or a related field (a bachelor’s with substantial experience may be considered)
✅ 5+ years in disaster risk management, early warning, anticipatory action, climate risk analysis or food security monitoring
✅ Experience working with government disaster management institutions, ideally the EDRMC
✅ Hands-on experience with early warning data, triggers, thresholds and early action protocols
✅ Fluent English (Amharic or other Ethiopian languages are an advantage)
📌 The role includes travel to Amhara, Tigray, Afar, Oromia, Somali and access-constrained areas, subject to security clearance. Open to local applicants only.
