π #StudyTuesdays |The African-German Network of Excellence in Science (AGNES) is offering 2026 Intra-Africa Mobility Grants, funding PhD students to carry out research at a university in another sub-Saharan African country.
π±Are you researching soils, water, climate, biodiversity or farming? This grant is open to all research fields, making it a strong opportunity to take your green research across borders.
π What AGNES is doing: Funded by Germany's BMZ with support from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the grant helps young African researchers build skills and scientific networks across the continent, working alongside an experienced host researcher.
πΌ What the grant covers:
βοΈ Travel to and from the host country
π Living costs during your stay
π¬ A research allowance for the host institution, on request
π Strong fit if you:
β Are a national of a sub-Saharan African country
β Are registered for a PhD at a university in sub-Saharan Africa
β Have published at least one paper from your thesis work in a Scopus- or Web of Science-indexed journal
β Have a confirmed host researcher and agreed work plan in another sub-Saharan African country
β Can show how your research supports development in the region
π IMVELO Impact: Africa's green economy needs homegrown science. Two months in another African lab, field site or research institute can sharpen a thesis on drought-tolerant crops, water quality or ecosystem restoration, and build the cross-border networks that turn research into regional solutions.
π Location: Any university or research institute in sub-Saharan Africa (outside your home country)
ποΈ Research stays: Between 1 March and 31 July 2027
π Language: Applications must be in English
β° Deadline: 16 October 2026
